This legal firm has its HQ in Manchester but satellite offices around the UK. In 2020 they found the need to allow people to work from home. This worked well for every part of their organisation apart from their telephones. They had used a desk-based phone system for many years. The issue they then had when working from home as they struggled with transferring calls, knowing if people were in meetings or at the desks.

With all of this happening they were starting to break through to some very large clients and become a ‘go-to’ advisor for some large household names. With this the security around data was key. On a regular basis, they had to complete long and arduous forms for clients and insurance bodies. The working from home and hybrid situation due to the events of 2020-2021 and data security being key the blue-chip clients were asking lots of questions


The firm had worked with Lanmark for many years around IT helpdesk, Office 365 and other IT needs. When the events started unfolding in early 2020 Lanmark brought to the firm the idea of MS Teams Telephony. The solution is that a staff member has one interface for meetings, internal chat, file storage and phones calls. The way in which the whole Microsoft 365 suite is linked the company knew who was in meetings and who was free for calls to be transferred. As well as all of this the other key features of this tool are for international work. The firm can give out a local in-country number to receive calls to and make calls from.

With data security, it was very simple. As a supported company and a user of Office 365, the full suite of enterprise mobility security from Office 365 was rolled out along with the pass of Cyber Essentials Plus. This solution put cyber policies in place, controlling measures and importantly safety around data. This included the full use of enterprise mobility suite with tools such as Intune, multi-factor authorisation and defender for EndPoint.


The team at Lanmark had been working with the client for many years so knew the client well. During the start of 2020, Lanmark had virtual meetings with all of their clients to set out options and important recommendations.

Working from home sped up some of these recommendations for this client. The cyber breaches that occurred at the start of working from home did not even affect this firm due to the use of Microsoft tools and being ready and prepared.


During the start of 2020 getting employees working from home, happy and quickly was the key point for lots of businesses. This firm already had in place most things they needed. The evolution of the phone system and enhanced was quick, easy, and embraced well. Due to the ease of use and Microsoft Teams being used for lots of other things the phone features were embraced quickly and easily.

With regards to questionnaires the firm now they are much simple to complete due to Cyber Essentials Plus and the policies put in place with Lanmark. If questions come up the firm is unsure if they have a backup ready and waiting from Lanmark.
