The Trials and Tribulations of Cloud Adoption

There can be no denying that Cloud Adoption is a major player in the growth and future success of many organisations.

Despite this, there are still many who view Cloud adoption as a headache and are put off by what they perceive to be the many trials and tribulations associated with the move.

However, according to a study by IDG Enterprise Cloud Computing Study, it was predicted that 25% of company’s IT budget in 2016 was allocated to Cloud Computing.

That is a large financial sum attached to the Cloud (no matter the size of the organisation) and highlights the importance of being open minded, flexible and progressive when looking at ways to achieve long term operational ease, success and growth.

It is one thing to establish the need migrate to the Cloud but another thing to actually adopt the process, and that is where many people are left scratching their heads, although they shouldn’t have too.

Often the trials and tribulations connected with the Cloud are as follows: –

  • Cost
  • People (users)
  • Scalability
  • Technology
  • The Migration Process

Fortunately, one of the main benefits of the Cloud is the ability to only ‘pay for what you need’ thus allowing you to scale up as and when required allowing you to maximise your budget.

Your users also play a critical role in the successful migration to the Cloud. Their ability to adapt and utilise new technologies as Cloud migration lends itself to a more agile approach is vital and Ensuring your users can transform their current capabilities to adopt the Cloud is largely influenced by the processes put in place by the CIO.

Your IT infrastructure defines the processes around how an organisation is run and understanding the value adopting the Cloud will bring to your business could be the difference between a successful growth strategy or standing still whilst your competitors take advantage.

Cloud adoption should not be a daunting prospect, it has been reported that 70% of organisations currently utilising Cloud capabilities, expect their adoption to increase over the next 12 months (Research from the Cloud Industry Forum CIF).

This is all good news and proves how important a successful adoption to the Cloud will be to your business.
